The IELTS exam is moderately challenging for most Indian students, but with focused preparation over 2 - 3 months, achieving a good score (such as 6.5 or above) is very achievable. The main challenges are time management, understanding different English accents in the listening section, and structuring your writing well.

The exam tests four skills:

- Listening (30 minutes): Four recordings with 40 questions, featuring various English accents and contexts.
- Reading (60 minutes): 40 questions based on three passages. Academic IELTS uses texts from books and journals; General Training uses everyday materials.
- Writing (60 minutes): Two tasks - describing visual data or writing a letter (Task 1), and an essay (Task 2).
- Speaking (11 - 14 minutes): Face-to-face interview with three parts: introduction, a short speech, and a discussion.

Each section is scored from 0 - 9 bands, with the overall score being the average. Practicing each section under timed conditions will help you succeed.
