If I apply to China, do I need to know the Chinese language or provide any Chinese language proficiency for a Postgraduate?
It depends on the language of instruction for your chosen program in China.
- English-taught programs: Chinese language proficiency is usually not required. You will typically need to provide proof of English proficiency, such as IELTS or TOEFL scores.
- Chinese-taught programs: You must provide a valid HSK (Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì) certificate. Most undergraduate programs require HSK Level 4 (score ≥ 180), and most postgraduate programs require HSK Level 5 (score ≥ 180). Some programs may accept HSK Level 3.
Requirements vary by university and program.
