How much time do I get to prepare before I start speaking in IELTS Speaking Part 2?
In IELTS Speaking Part 2, you get exactly one minute to prepare after receiving your cue card topic. Once that minute ends, you must speak on the given topic for up to two minutes, and the examiner may ask you one or two brief follow-up questions related to that topic.

How to Use Your One Minute Wisely
Jot down quick keywords rather than full sentences during your one minute, covering who, what, when, where and why for the cue card topic. This gives you enough prompts to speak fluently for the full two minutes without memorising a script.

Practice the one-minute note-taking habit at home using random cue card topics. Time yourself strictly so that on test day, using your prep minute efficiently feels automatic rather than stressful.
