How does the selection process for the Rotary Peace Fellowship work for me as an applicant?
The Rotary Peace Fellowship selection has three broad stages: eligibility screening, detailed application review, and final selection. Districts may interview and endorse candidates, the Rotary Peace Centers Committee and university representatives choose finalists, and Rotary Foundation trustees approve. Selection does not guarantee university admission.
Rotary selects fellows through eligibility screening, a detailed review and a final selection stage. Your academic and professional background, commitment to peace and development, leadership potential and fit with the chosen programme are all assessed.
Stages of Selection
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Initial screening | Checks your qualifications and work experience, English proficiency, eligibility for the programme and centre, and completeness of documents |
| District review | Districts may interview you and may endorse you, though endorsement does not guarantee selection |
| Committee review | The Rotary Peace Centers Committee and university representatives assess candidates and pick finalists |
| Final approval | Trustees of The Rotary Foundation approve the final selection |
What Interviews May Explore
- Your previous work in peacebuilding or development.
- Your leadership experience and potential.
- How you have worked with people from different backgrounds.
- Your plans for using what you learn.
- Whether your goals fit the peacebuilding mission Rotary stands for.
My Advice
Explain your experience and goals clearly and prepare real examples of leadership and community work. Remember that being selected as a fellow is separate from university admission, so you must also meet your designated university's own requirements.
