Given my three years of work experience, which postgraduate degree should I pursue for business management: a Master's in Management or an MBA?

The deciding question is not how many years you have worked but whether those three years gave you real responsibility. Leading a project, managing a client relationship or driving a function forward reads very differently to an admissions committee than three years spent in an entry level rotation.

• You have led people or projects, not just executed tasks assigned to you.
• You want to switch industry or function, using your experience as credibility rather than starting over.
• You want the next role to build on this one, rather than compete with fresh graduates for entry level openings.

When a MiM Still Makes Sense

If your three years were technical or operational and largely disconnected from the management career you actually want, a MiM can build that foundation without you having to present yourself as more senior than the work justifies. The risk is that GMAC describes MiM graduates as more likely to land early career roles, so you could end up competing for junior openings despite already having three years behind you.

My Advice

Do not choose based on prestige alone. Individual schools set very different experience bars, so check each target programme's typical cohort experience rather than assuming three years automatically clears every MBA's bar or automatically rules out every MiM.
