Given my 5 years of work experience, should I pursue an MBA or a MiM for management roles?

The more useful question isn't MBA versus MiM in the abstract, it's whether your 5 years of career progression, promotions, ownership, measurable impact, actually makes a compelling MBA application, since that matters more than simply having enough years.

When a MiM Could Still Make Sense at 5 Years

• Your 5 years were largely unrelated to the career you now want, and you specifically need an early-career reset rather than an acceleration.
• A specific MiM programme has unusually strong access to the exact companies or geography you're targeting.
• You're not yet MBA-ready: your profile doesn't currently support a competitive MBA application for reasons beyond years of experience.

My Advice

Focus your application energy on what you actually did during those 5 years, promotions, ownership, team leadership and measurable impact, since that's what schools like INSEAD explicitly evaluate alongside years of experience. Don't rush into an MBA purely because you've hit the 5-year mark; the quality of the specific programme and its recruiting outcomes matter more than the MBA label itself. As a backup, if you're pivoting into an entirely different industry, a MiM-style reset can work, but weigh that against effectively discounting your 5 years of seniority.
