Do I need to know French language to study in France, and is basic French enough for a Master's?

You do not need to know French to study in France if you enroll in an English-taught master's program - English proficiency (such as IELTS) is usually sufficient, and French is not mandatory.
However, if your program is taught in French, you will need strong French skills, typically at least a B2 level on the CEFR scale.
For daily life in France, basic French (A2 - B1 level) is highly recommended. It will help you manage everyday tasks and integrate more easily, but it is not enough for French-taught academic courses.
