A Master of Research (MRes) or Masters by Research is a postgraduate degree focused mainly on developing advanced research skills.

Unlike regular taught master's programs that center on classroom coursework, an MRes combines some coursework with a major research project or thesis. You select a specific research topic early and spend most of your time conducting in-depth research under faculty supervision.

This degree is ideal if you want to build expertise in a particular area and prepare for a research career or further study such as a PhD.
