Can you explain the IELTS exam and its four major modules?
The IELTS exam tests your English skills in four main modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The total duration is about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
- Listening (30 minutes): Four audio sections with 40 questions. You listen to recordings and answer as you go. The recordings play once.
- Reading (60 minutes): Three sections with 40 questions. The Academic and General Training versions have different types of texts.
- Writing (60 minutes): Two tasks - describing data or writing a letter (Task 1) and writing an essay (Task 2).
- Speaking (11 - 14 minutes): A face-to-face interview covering personal questions, a short speech, and a discussion.
Each module is scored from 0 to 9, and your overall band is the average. This format is subject to change.
