Are most Indian nutraceutical brands using clinically studied, patented ingredients, or selling commodity inputs?

Most Indian supplement brands use commodity ingredient versions, generic probiotic strains with no clinical backing, plain B vitamins instead of active forms, and basic botanical powders rather than standardised extracts. Very few brands use patented, clinically studied forms.

• A small number of Indian brands like The Stack have started sourcing patented ingredients, but this is not yet common.
• The main reason is cost, clinically studied branded ingredients are significantly more expensive to import.
• This gap creates a clear differentiation opportunity for a premium brand using evidenced ingredients in the Indian market.
