Are French universities accepting applications for the September 2026 intake?
You cannot currently apply to French universities for the September 2026 intake, since that admissions window has already closed and classes are starting or already underway. Your next options are a January intake at select private institutions, or the September 2027 intake, which opens applications around October or November 2026.
If you were hoping to apply for the September 2026 intake at a French university, that window has unfortunately already closed. Your best move now is to look at what comes next rather than trying to force an application into a cycle that has passed.
Your Realistic Intake Options Now
| Intake | Status For You |
|---|---|
| September 2026 | Closed, classes already starting or underway |
| January Intake | Available at some private institutions and business schools |
| September 2027 | Main public university intake, applications open later this year |
When You Should Start Applying Next
If you want the January intake, note that its application deadlines usually fall between September and November of the preceding year, so you may need to move quickly. For the September 2027 intake at public universities, applications through the Etudes en France or Campus France platform typically open in October or November 2026.
My Advice
Do not wait for a last minute exception on the September 2026 cycle. Start preparing your documents now so you are ready the moment the January or September 2027 application window opens.
