The University of Western Ontario, now known as Western University, is a public research institute established in 1878 in Ontario, Canada. It has a student enrollment of 40,000 students, of which 5,800 are international students from 128 nations. There are 12 academic faculties and schools, including Arts & Humanities, Law, Health Sciences and Engineering, offering 400 undergraduate specializations and 88 graduate degree programs. Some of the courses are Anthropology, Geology, Political Science, Classical Studies and Mechanical Engineering. The university also offers courses in conjunction with certain affiliate universities and colleges such as King's University College and Brescia University College. Western University has a 481.2-hectare campus in London, Ontario, with five libraries (Music Library, Allyn & Betty Taylor Library, The D.B Weldon Library etc.), the Education Resource Centre and the Archives and Special Collections. Those looking to pursue higher education or interest can enroll in the Western Continuing Studies program comprising certificate, diploma, online, professional development and post-degree programs. Areas covered include Design, Public Relations, Human Resources, Conflict Management etc. There are several Distance Learning courses to choose from for Western University and other Canadian university students. Students can participate in exchanges, summer programs, research expeditions, internships, and placements through the study abroad program. Western University's IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning in partnership with the International Baccalaureate enables educators to enhance their skills. The ASPIRE program provides Additional Qualification and Teacher Professional Development courses. Financial assistance options include scholarships, bursaries, loans, student employment and grants like the Loran Award, Surex Scholarship Program, OSAP, First Generation Bursary and Work-Study. Delaware Hall, Alumni House, London Hall etc., provide undergraduate accommodation in traditional, suite and hybrid-style buildings. Graduate accommodation is available at the University Apartments and family housing at the Platt's Lane Estates. There are over 180 cultural, academic, sports and professional student clubs to join. Western University is known for its student employment rate of 95.2%.
