The Microbiology graduate program at the University of Delaware focuses on the study of Earth's most abundant life forms, including bacteria, archaea, viruses, protists, and fungi. These microbes form the largest store of biomass on the planet and hold significant biodiversity. The program emphasizes the role of microbes in solving global challenges such as sustainable energy production, material synthesis, human health, and food security. Faculty members from five colleges and 13 departments work together to address these scientific and societal challenges, making the program a model for interdisciplinary research and training.
