About this course
This undergraduate program combines the study of hardware and software within modern computing and engineering. It aims to equip students with the knowledge to lead teams designing and building future embedded and computerized systems. The course includes core studies in electronics, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computing science. Students will develop key skills in circuit design, programming, networking, and electronic system design, with practical laboratory work. From years 2 and 3, students deepen their understanding of computer systems and software engineering, gaining expertise in programming using Java, operating systems, databases, and electronic design software. The program also offers a year of industry placement and opportunities for study abroad, especially in the final year.
Why this course is highly recommended
This course is ideal if you're interested in both hardware and software components of modern systems, aiming to lead future innovations. The embedded industry placement year enhances practical experience, making graduates more employable. The program's integrated modules develop a broad skill set tailored to evolving technological needs. Its accreditation by the British Computer Society adds professional value, and the opportunity to study abroad or participate in a graduate apprenticeship broadens your exposure.
Specialisation
Students will study a mix of electronics, electrical engineering, and computing science. In year 4, there is a flexible selection of technical options spanning electronics, VLSI design, robotics, AI, software engineering, and network communications. MEng students undertake a multidisciplinary system design project and a six-month project abroad in year 5. Students on BEng or BSc paths engage in a substantial individual project, supervised closely.
