This MSci course is designed to prepare students for a research career or to enhance their prospects when applying for a PhD. In the first year, students gain a broad understanding of biomedical science, including microbiology, diseases caused by microorganisms, the immune system, pathology, and biochemistry. The second year focuses on the cellular and molecular basis of human diseases caused by microbes like Shigella, tuberculosis, and viruses including SARS-CoV-2, along with studying antibiotic resistance. Practical skills are supported through eBiolabs online resources. Students choose infection units and an optional unit in their third year. The fourth year emphasizes research, communication, enterprise, and translational research, culminating in an extended research project.
