About this course
Environmental Science and Engineering at Trinity is an integrated five-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop sustainable solutions for key societal and environmental challenges. The course combines natural sciences and engineering, with a focus on protecting and improving our environment, fostering biodiversity, and promoting climate action. It includes both undergraduate and postgraduate components, culminating in a degree that prepares graduates to work with natural systems rather than against them. Students engage in practical laboratory and fieldwork, often involving international trips, and learn through diverse assessment methods. Delivered through collaboration between Trinity’s School of Natural Sciences and School of Engineering, the program emphasizes research, teamwork, and applied problem-solving.
Why this course is highly recommended
This course is ideal for students eager to address pressing environmental issues using both scientific and engineering approaches. Graduates will be highly employable both in Ireland and internationally, with opportunities spanning R&D, environmental consultancy, government agencies, and private sector firms. The course also offers options for international study and practical industry experience, further strengthening career prospects.
Specialisation
After completing the first three years, students choose to specialise in either Environmental Engineering or Applied Environmental Science. In their final year, they can undertake an industry internship, international exchange, or a capstone project aligned with their chosen stream. This allows students to tailor their education towards specific career interests within environmental technology or scientific application.
