About the Scholarship

  • Friends and colleagues created the Tina Watkins Scholarship in honour of Tina Watkins, who dedicated her life to developing connections and supporting the needs of international students. 
  • Each Spring and Fall semester, an award will be given to an overseas student. 
  • Academic merit, financial need, and the length of time a student has been enrolled at Texas A&M University all go towards the awards. 
  • Scholarships will be credited to a student's tuition and fee bill for the following semester's enrollment at Texas A&M University.

Eligibility

  • The Tina Watkins Scholarship is only available to self-supporting overseas students presently enrolled at Texas A&M University.
  • ELI students enrolled full-time are not eligible. Students that are interested in attending are not eligible. 
  • At the time of application, applicants must be enrolled as degree-seeking students at Texas A&M University in their first, second, or third semester. 
  • A student who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and does not have an immigration visa is classified as an international student. 
  • Applications must be accompanied by a letter of nomination.

  • To apply, students must be in excellent academic standing, with a minimum cumulative GPR of 2.0 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduates. 
  • Tina Watkins Scholarships cannot be awarded to the same student more than once.

Application Process

  • A nomination letter from any faculty member at Texas A&M University is required with the Tina Watkins Scholarship application. 
  • A second nomination letter from a faculty member at the student's prior academic institution, in addition to the Texas A & M University nomination letter, may be provided if the student has only been enrolled for one semester. 

 

All nomination letters must be prepared in English on the faculty member's academic institution's official letterhead and must include the following information:

  • Name of student
  • Nominator’s relationship to the student
  • Verification of any financial need, if known
  • A description of the student’s academic performance
  • A comparison of this student to others the nominator has known (in terms of academic progress and involvement in other activities).
  • Any other information the nominator deems important that the Scholarship Committee should know, such as unusual circumstances that may exist.

Please submit your supplemental documents such as letters of recommendation, publications, etc., to support the applicant’s worthiness no later than 5:00 p.m. on the deadline, February 1.  If the application deadline falls on a weekend, the documents may be received through 5:00 p.m. the first business day after.
