Eligibility

  • Applicant must be enrolled or plan to enrol full-time in one of the following programmes in 2022-23:
    A full-time, two- or three-session programme leading to a graduate degree at the University of Toronto qualifies as an eligible programme. A full-time student is one who is enrolled in at least 60% of a full course load (40 percent for students with a permanent impairment) or as their institution defines it.
  • Applicants must not have received more than the lifetime maximum amount of government-funded or OGS support for their current level of study (see Maximum Support below); and
  • In 2022-23, the applicant must be enrolled or planning to enrol full-time in one of the following programmes:
    An eligible programme is a full-time, two- or three-session programme leading to a graduate degree at the University of Toronto. A full-time student is one who is enrolled in at least 60% of a full course load (or 40% for students with a permanent handicap), or as defined by their institution.
  • Applicants must not have received more than the lifetime maximum amount of government-funded or OGS support for their current level of study (see Maximum Support below); and they must not have received more than the lifetime maximum amount of government-funded or OGS support for their current level of study.
  • Must be a member of the Ontario Student Assistance Program in good standing (OSAP). Applicants who have defaulted on a Canada or Ontario Student Loan, or who have not made satisfactory payback on a loan overpayment, are not eligible for the award. Those who are restricted by the OSAP may still apply for the OGS. If they are granted, they must clear the restriction within 30 days of notification in order to accept and retain the prize; Accept research assistantships, part-time teaching positions, or other paid work that does not jeopardise their status as a full-time graduate student and complies with graduate unit standards. Students who work full-time for a living are usually ineligible for an OGS from the University of Toronto; and
  • A scholarship from SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR, QEII-GSST, or another OGS cannot be held in the same session (overlapping) or in the same award year as an OGS grant.

Application Process

  • Applicants must use the U of T School of Graduate Studies' unified online OGS application to submit an OGS application to their proposed graduate unit. 
  • Applicants must adhere to the internal submission deadlines set by each graduate unit. Applicants should read the OGS Application Instructions before applying.
  • The whole application will be made accessible to the proposed graduate unit for assessment and consideration once it has been completed and submitted electronically.
