You must apply through the German mission covering your current state of residence, not your home state. Getting this wrong means your application will not be processed.

All student visa applications now start online via the Consular Services Portal (CSP) at digital.diplo.de/visa. Select "Study purposes and seeking a university place," complete the questionnaire, upload your documents, and the CSP generates a VFS appointment booking link. Booking a VFS slot without completing CSP first means your documents will be rejected at the center.

Counselor insight: If you are studying in Bengaluru but your permanent address is in Lucknow, apply from Bengaluru using your hostel address proof. This can cut your total wait by 2 to 3 months. The German Embassy checks your CSP-entered address, not your Aadhaar's permanent address.

• Cost: Rs.18,000 (EUR 225)
• Where: APS India office, New Delhi (in-person interview required)
• Processing time: 4 to 8 weeks after your interview
• Apply: At least 5 to 6 months before your course start date

Counselor insight: APS slots fill in batches. Students who apply in March or April for September intake often find the next available slot is 6 to 8 weeks away. Book the moment your admission letter arrives, not after.

Deposit EUR 11,904 (Rs.10,80,000) into a German blocked account before your VFS appointment. This is the updated 2025 figure; submitting the older EUR 10,332 causes rejection.

Open your account with Fintiba, Coracle, or Deutsche Bank. Fintiba and Coracle processes online within 3–5 working days.

Counselor insight: Transfer the full EUR 11,904 in one wire. Indian banks charge Rs.1,500 to Rs.3,500 per transaction, and multiple transfers create a fragmented statement that visa officers dislike.

1. Get your university admission letter.
2. Apply for APS Certificate at APS India, New Delhi (allow 4 to 8 weeks).
3. Deposit EUR 11,904 into a blocked account (Fintiba, Coracle, or Deutsche Bank).
4. Arrange travel health insurance (min EUR 30,000 coverage).
5. Complete CSP pre-registration at digital.diplo.de/visa.
6. Book VFS appointments using the link generated by CSP.
7. Attend appointment: submit originals and biometrics and pay visa fee.
8. Wait 6 to 12 weeks. Track via VFS portal.
9. Collect visas. On arrival, register your address and apply for a residence permit within 90 days.

1. Complete CSP pre-registration first; the VFS booking link is only generated after CSP submission.
2. Go to visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/deu/book-an-appointment.
3. Select "National Visa" then "Study" as a subcategory. Do not select Schengen.
4. Choose your city based on your current state of residence (see jurisdiction table above).
5. Check for slots between 7 and 9 AM IST; cancellations open then.
6. Pay VFS service charge (Rs.2,500 to Rs.3,200) at booking. Print your confirmation slip.

Counselor insight: Book your VFS appointment the day you receive your blocked account confirmation, not after you finish organizing every document. Delayed appointments are the biggest reason students miss their intake, not visa rejections.

The interview is 10 to 20 minutes long. Officers check that your SOP, documents, and answers are consistent. Common questions:

• Why did you choose this university and this specific course?
• How does this degree connect to your career plans?
• How will you fund your stay after year one?
• What will you do after graduation?

Name 2 to 3 course modules in your SOP. Explain your university choice specifically. Generic answers are the most common reason for rejection.

• Wrong blocked account amount (EUR 10,332 instead of EUR 11,904)
• Missing APS Certificate
• Vague or generic SOP
• Name or DOB mismatch between passport, mark sheets, and admission letter
• Blocked account not fully funded or funded too close to the appointment date
• No accommodation proof
• Unexplained academic gap of 1 year or more

Reading the rejection letter, embassies must state the reason. Fix the specific issue and reapply with no waiting period. For errors, file a Widerspruch (appeal to the Berlin administrative court) within 1 month. Note: India's remonstration process ended in January 2024, so appeals go directly to court. Contact your university's international office for a supporting letter if needed.

After graduating in Germany, your three main visa options are:

1. Germany Job Seeker Visa 6 months, no job offer required Apply at your local Ausländerbehörde before your student permit expires. You can stay in Germany and search for a job that matches your qualifications. No employer sponsorship is needed at the time of application.

2. EU Blue Card For degree holders with a job offer Requires a job offer above EUR 45,300 per year (EUR 35,300 for shortage occupations such as IT, engineering, and healthcare). The Blue Card is the fastest route to permanent residency in Germany 21 months with B1 German, or 33 months without. Check current Blue Card salary thresholds here.

3. Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) 12-month points-based card Introduced in 2024, the Chancenkarte allows qualified graduates to stay in Germany for up to 12 months while searching for a sponsored role. You can work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during this period. Points are awarded based on qualification, work experience, language skills, and age.

Counselor insight: Most Indian students default to the Job Seeker Visa because it is the most familiar option. But if you already have a job offer lined up before graduation, go straight for the EU Blue Card. It skips the job search phase entirely and puts you on a faster track to permanent residency.

1. Apply for APS immediately. Every week of delay pushes your VFS appointment further back.
2. Open your blocked account before booking VFS. Fund EUR 11,904 in one transfer using Fintiba or Coracle.
3. Write a specific SOP. Name your course modules and explain your university choice. A generic SOP is the most avoidable reason for Germany study visa rejection.
