About the Scholarship

  • The University of Arizona Foundation's Board of Directors has established a permanent endowment in honour of Peter "Pete" Likins, the university's 18th president, for his remarkable vision, leadership, and unshakable dedication to diversity and excellence. 
  • The nominee must be a current graduate student in their first or second year at the time of application (May 16, 2022), and must have overcome significant adversity to be accepted for admission and demonstrate successful academic progress in a graduate programme at the University of Arizona (Master's or doctoral) (UA).

Scholarship amount details

  • $10,000 cash fellowship plus full base graduate tuition excluding mandatory fees and student health insurance

Eligibility

  • A doctorate or master's student in their first or second year, domestic or international 
  • Students admitted to the Accelerated Master's Program (AMP), UA Online, JD, and MD programmes are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicant must be in excellent academic standing; 
  • Applicant must be nominated by the academic unit (one nomination per academic unit); -Applicant may not apply directly.
  • A graduate assistantship may be held by the recipient at the same time.

Application Process

The nominating programme must complete the application and upload the following materials:

  • Academic unit head or director of graduate studies from the University of Arizona (one per degree granting program).
  • Written statements from nominees:
  • A two- to three-page essay about how they overcame adversity to achieve their desire of earning a master's or doctoral degree at the University of Arizona.
  • A brief statement (no more than one page) of why they want to pursue a higher degree.
  • One (1) letter of recommendation from a University of Arizona faculty member (may be same or different from the nominating faculty)
