The University of Surrey is a public research university located in Guildford, England. Formerly known as the Battersea College of Technology, it gained its university status and was renamed in 1966.
The university is renowned as a pioneer in the field of mobile and satellite communications technology, with an ongoing project helping develop 5G communication platforms.
The university offers over 90 undergraduate courses as well as over 100 postgraduate courses. The university also offers students a chance to pursue their doctoral studies.
The top courses at the University of Surrey include MSc in 5G and Future Generation Communications System, MSc in Satellite Communications Engineering and B.Eng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The main campus is located on Stag Hill in Guildford and is spread over an area of 74 acres.
A secondary campus was opened 1.6 kilometers away from this campus. Called the Manor Park Campus, it consists of a number of residential and academic buildings, as well as the Surrey Sports Park, the main sporting complex of the university. The university is home to the Surrey Research Park, with over 100 companies collaborating with students and faculty.
Other facilities provided on campus include the University of Surrey Library and the 5G Innovation Centre. The annual tuition costs vary between GBP 15,500 - GBP 22,000 depending on the course and its length. The university has a diverse student culture, with 33% of the total students being from foreign countries.
Spaces like the MySurreyNest and The Marquee encourage students to gather together to collaborate and interact with the multicultural student body. Notable alumni who studied at the University of Surrey include Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, former President of Maldives, theoretical physicist Jim Al-Khalili and former Member of Parliament Liz McInnes.
