Placements

Work internships are a fantastic opportunity to put what you've learned in class into practice, and Oxford Brookes assists students in identifying the finest options for them. When searching for jobs, having a good work placement on your CV might help you stand out. When our work placement students graduate, many of them are given a job with their placement company.

  • The ability to spend a year in the industry through our work placement scheme is a significant part of all undergraduate courses. A year in industry is optional, but highly recommended, and occurs in the third year of a four-year programme
  • To add value to a degree, the placement should be of a proper level of responsibility
  • The position must be full-time (at least 37.5 hours per week) and for a minimum of 48 weeks
  • The remuneration must be appropriate for the placement role and must not be less than the country's minimum wage

The advantages of taking a placement year:

  • Before you graduate, you must complete a year of paid, full-time work experience in a graduate-level position. This is a terrific addition to your CV and will help you stand out while applying for graduate jobs
  • A graduate employment offer from your work placement employer - which many of our students receive each year
  • An opportunity to improve your analytical and communication abilities, which are in high demand among businesses
  • Extensive experience in a field or employment function that supports your future professional goals and is of interest to you
  • Working in a competitive and fast-paced setting allows you to gain confidence
  • Above all, placements will improve your skills, allowing you to earn a better degree and, as a result, raise your chances of landing a suitable graduate position in your chosen field

How can the university help:

The Skills for Placement Module will be taken during your second year of study. This module will assist you in your hunt for a work placement position and teach you tactics and skills that will help you succeed in interviews and assessment centres. A specialist placements team housed inside the Business School can also provide additional assistance. Throughout your work placement year, the Business School will provide you with ongoing support from your individual Placement Tutor.
