The University of San Francisco, founded in 1855, provides more than 230 undergraduate, graduate, professional, and certificate programmes on its main campus. The university also has programmes available at several other campuses. According to QS - World University Ranking, the University of San Francisco has been ranked between 801 and 1000 for three years, from 2018 to 2020. For the uninitiated, Times Higher Education (THE) accords equal weight to Teaching, Research, and Citations at 30% each, while QS places the most priority on Academic Reputation (40%) followed by Citations per Faculty at 20% and Faculty/Student Ratio each.
 

Additionally, the University of San Francisco is mentioned in the 2021 edition of the US News & World Report's National University Ranking, where it holds the 103rd place position. Earlier, the university had the 96th and 97th positions for 2018 and 2019, respectively. In addition to other rating factors, the US News & World Report bases their rankings on the number of publications cited, global research reputation, and regional research reputation (12.5% each).

Whenever they speak about University of San Francisco's curriculum rankings, the business courses there have been ranked. The university's Global MBA programme has a 2021 QS topic ranking that places it between 141 and 150. Prior to that, in 2020 and 2018, it was placed 131–140. The Graduate Business School has been listed by US News & World Report between 99 and 131 for the two years 2019 and 2021. The UG Business programme is ranked 132 for 2021 by US News & World Report. The approach used by US News & World Report to rank subjects includes, among other things, considerations such as student selection (25%), the views of business school administrators (25%), and employment outcome (21%).
