What are the requirements for participation?


International students must achieve both program-specific and general standards to be considered for admission to the University of Notre Dame. The following are the precise eligibility conditions for each programme level:

Requirements for Undergraduates:

  • Although there is no requirement for a minimum grade point average or class rank, above-average high school achievement boosts the university's chances of selection.
  • Four units of English, three units of Mathematics, two units of foreign languages, two units of science, and two units of history and social science must be completed during high school.
  • The unit distribution may vary depending on the chosen programme of study, as well as the SAT or ACT scores.
  • Participation in extracurricular and community-based activities
  • One letter of recommendation from any subject instructor; a counsellor recommendation is optional but encouraged.
  • Essays are examples of writing supplements.
  • Some creative undergraduate programmes may demand an example of talent.
  • IELTS Academic: A band score of 7.5 or higher is required.
  • A TOEFL iBT score of 100 or above is required.
  • A score of 70 or higher on the Pearson Test of English-Academic (PTE)
  • When candidates score 650 or higher on the SAT's Evidence-Based Reading and Writing exam, and/or an applicant scores 26 or higher on the ACT's English or Reading portions, English proficiency scores can be waived.

Requirements at the graduate level (Master's and Doctoral programmes):

The university's prerequisites for admission to graduate programmes vary depending on the programme. However, the following are the general requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree is required (or equivalent as recognised by University of Notre Dame)
  • On a 4.0 scale, an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  • Scores on the GRE General Test and the GRE Subject Test (as per specific programme requirement)
  • Intentional statement
  • A resume, often known as a curriculum vitae, is a document that lists
  • Three recommendation letters
  • IELTS Academic: A band score of 7.0 or higher is required.
  • TOEFL iBT: An overall score of 80 or above on the TOEFL iBT, with a minimum score of 23 in the Speaking portion.
