A good result on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the recent two years. To be considered for admission, you must have a 500 on the paper-based TOEFL exam or a 61 on the internet-based (iBT) exam. Students who want to apply for a post-baccalaureate programme must have a paper-based TOEFL score of 550 or an iBT score of 79 or higher.

Documentation proving successful completion of freshman-level English writing at a regionally approved American college or university in the United States, as well as an overall acceptable GPA. If it has been several years since the student last took English classes or if the student has returned to school, non-native English speakers may still be asked to take the TOEFL.

A good verbal score on the ACT or SAT taken within the previous two years. To be considered for admission, you must have an ACT score of 18 or a SAT score of 430 (until 3/15/16) or 25 (effective 3/16/16).

Within the last two years, an official and satisfactory result from the International English Language Testing Service. To be considered for admission, you must have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 with sub-scores of 5.0 or better in reading and writing. If you want to apply for a post-baccalaureate programme, you must have an IELTS score of 6.5 or above.

Completion of the American English Language Program at NKU with an average of at least 80% in each AELP class.
