The Career Success Lab offers undergraduate and graduate students the following resources and services. The goal is to provide each student with the knowledge and abilities they need to find a job they enjoy. During a student's first year, this process begins. Please review the suggestions below for steps to guarantee that each student graduates with a well-thought-out plan.

 

First and Second Year:

 

  • Attend workshops and career fairs to improve your skills, learn about internships, and meet people who can help you find work
  • Build your resume by accumulating relevant work experience and evaluating your abilities
  • Students will use career self-assessment tools such as the FOCUS II or the Self-Directed Search to examine their values, interests, skills, and abilities
  • By visiting with a career counsellor, you can clarify short- and long-term career goals and revise your career plan
  • Students will be expected to participate both on and off-campus. Join a student organisation, volunteer, or use the student employment programme to earn an on-campus job or a first-year internship
  • Volunteer work and part-time jobs can help you develop skills and boost your resume
  • Declare your major with your academic advisor
  • As you research, make notes on academic preparation and skill requirements for specific jobs
  • After conducting active research and identifying two career fields of interest, students will conduct informational interviews with professionals in two career sectors of interest
  • Schedule a consultation with a career counsellor or advisor to discuss interests and related majors, establish goals, assess skills, and develop a career plan
  • To prepare for internships, schedule an appointment with a cooperative education coordinator
  • On Handshake and LinkedIn, students will construct an online professional profile
  • Students will use Graduway to connect with a professional mentor

 

Third Year:

 

  • Apply to graduate school and provide supporting papers such as transcripts, essays, test scores, and letters of recommendation

  • Complete a second cooperative education programme or an internship
  • Request recommendations from employers, administrators, and professors

  • Make a portfolio of your recommendations, leadership experiences, accolades, and accomplishments
  • Fill out the graduation clearance documents
  • Request job and graduate school admission recommendations from employers, faculty, and employees
  • For possible jobs, research organisations and industries, and prepare for interviews
  • Review and fulfil the graduate school application criteria
