Lehman College

Nonimmigrant alien students are permitted to attend Lehman College under federal law. Any person studying in the United States on a nonimmigrant visa is considered a "international student" at Lehman. Except for nationals of English-speaking nations, international students must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). For admission at Lehman, a minimum TOEFL score of 500 is required, with most fields requiring a higher level. TOEFL/ Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151, can provide more information. The test is not required for residents of English-speaking nations.

To qualify for and maintain this visa status, all students on F-I or J-I visas must be full-time students every semester, taking at least 9 credits. Full-time students who have supplied the requisite financial paperwork to the Office of Admissions and have been admitted to the College will receive Form I-20 or IAP-66. Nonimmigrant aliens with B (visitor) visas who plan to attend or have already begun attending Lehman College must apply for a change of status to F (student) visa through the International Student Adviser two months before their current B visa expires. The International Student Certification Officer can offer the appropriate papers for the student's Lehman status.
