International students applying for graduate admissions must show that they have a good command of the English language.

This requirement is waived* in the following cases:

• People who live in nations where English is the primary language. Countries that do not require English proficiency tests
• After reviewing certified transcripts showing the degree conferred, applicants who have graduated with a degree from a recognized US institution of higher education will be considered.
• After reviewing certified transcripts showing the degree conferred, applicants who have graduated with a degree from an accredited institution of higher education from one of the approved nations will be considered.
• Conditional admissions students who have completed the ALI Bridge route programme successfully. Only a few graduate schools allow for conditional admission.

*Some programmes do not exempt students from taking the exam if they live in the United States or have a US degree.

All other students must pass a qualifying exam to meet the English language competency requirement. The following are the minimum prerequisites for graduate admissions:

• IELTS score of 6
• IUP's reporting code is 2652 on the TOEFL iBT 76.
• ITP 540 TOEFL
• C1 Advanced 179 Cambridge English

*Some departments may have a minimum score requirement for their programme (s). Please get in touch with your graduate.

All overseas students must submit a financial affidavit demonstrating that they have the funds to cover the cost of two semesters at IUP. A bank statement or letter from the sponsor is necessary if the sponsor is not a parent. Bank statements and correspondence must be no older than a year.
