The prerequisites for admission

As an international graduate student, you will need to meet specific prerequisites, just like any other student accepted to Dakota State University.

Demonstrate your intellectual prowess.

To demonstrate your capacity to effectively complete a graduate degree at DSU, you must achieve specific requirements. You'll need to do the following in particular:

• Have earned a baccalaureate degree in the United States, which is equivalent to a four-year undergraduate degree.
• We reserve the right to request that international transcripts be evaluated by a DSU-approved transcript review agency.
• Have a minimum 2.70 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale as an undergraduate (or the equivalent on an alternative grading system)

Successfully complete the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

Within the last five years, you must have taken the GRE. The GRE test can be waived if one of the following conditions are met:

• A bachelor degree from a regionally approved US college or university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Admission to and achievement in a regionally approved graduate school in the United States. Grades of "A" or "B" in at least nine hours of graduate work constitute shown success.
• At least 15 years ago, you graduated from a regionally approved college or university in the United States.

Be able to communicate well in English.

One of the following methods must be used to demonstrate your English proficiency:

• 76 on the TOEFL iBT
• 550 on the TOEFL PBT
• 6.0 on the IELTS (with no sub-score less than 5.5)
• Academic PTE: 53
• ELS Level 112 Completion

Within two years of the exam date, you must submit your English proficiency scores. Please remember that the testing agency must send an official TOEFL or PTE Academic score.
