Internships
An internship is a professional learning experience provided by a company to give students valuable job experience. Internships help students build their careers by allowing them to explore interests and gain professional skills and competencies in their field of study. Internships come in a variety of lengths, disciplines, and job types.
Alberta Smithsonian Internship Program:
Spend 10-12 weeks at the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum conglomerate, in Washington, D.C. Learn from professionals, make an impact, and grow personally and professionally by assisting with research and assisting in the production of world-class programmes and exhibits. This internship provides opportunities in a wide range of fields, including science, business and public administration, history, education, and the arts. A $10,000 prize will be awarded to successful applicants (the internship is unpaid).
Eligibility
- All OC students enrolled in a diploma or applied degree programme are eligible to apply.
- Have completed a full-time academic programme with at least 60 credits
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on all post-secondary work is required.
- Prior to the application deadline, have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in the most recently completed term
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- be an Alberta resident, which is defined as any of the following for the purposes of these grant programmes:
- Albertan by birth
- graduated from an Alberta high school
- graduated from an Alberta post-secondary institution with an Eligible Program
- I spent a total of 12 months in Alberta
Alberta-Saxony Internship and Intercultural Alliance (ASiiA):
The ASiiA programme provides Alberta students with the option to participate in a research or industry internship in Saxony, Germany, that is directly related to their subject of study. Technology, business, health, energy, the environment, education, and economic development are all relevant topic areas. It's possible that some internships will be unpaid.
Eligibility
- All OC students participating in an Applied Degree programme are eligible to apply
- before leaving for the internship, you must have completed a minimum of 24 credits
- A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required
- be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- The ability to communicate in German is preferred but not needed
