For international students, UTAS has country-specific prerequisites. The requirements for each course and programme differ. To be considered for an offer, Indian students must obtain the needed admission grade, complete the minimum English language requirements, and meet other subject-specific prerequisites for the chosen programme.
Requirements for Foundation Courses
Students who do not meet the academic criteria for their undergraduate major should enroll in the UTAS Foundation Studies Program. Applicants must have a B grade in CBSE/CISCE English and a 10+1 in CBSE/CISCE or All India State Board Mathematics to be considered (provision results are accepted). Students must take UTAS Access -English Level 5 if they do not satisfy the minimal English proficiency criteria.
Requirements for Undergraduates
Students must apply with an All India Senior School Certificate with a minimum of 65 percent in the best of four core topics in order to be admitted to the first year of an undergraduate programme (including English, but excluding Physical and Health Education, and General Studies). Students must meet a minimum admission score based on the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank for most undergraduate courses (ATAR).
*The TIS minimum is 75 percent or 10 points greater than the needed ATAR (whichever is higher)
The following Indian boards of education recognize pass certificates:
- Senior School Certificate in India (AISSC)
- Certificate of Indian Schooling (ISC)
- Secondary Education Central Board (CBSE)
- Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal have their own state boards.
Requirements for Masters
A qualification comparable to an Australian bachelor's degree from a recognized institution is required for admission to most postgraduate courses at UTAS. In addition to the English language requirements, applicants must complete subject-specific criteria.
Requirements for PG Research
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree comparable to an Australian bachelor's degree with a minimum of Lower Second Class Honours and an IELTS score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0. PhD programmes typically demand the equivalent of an Australian bachelor's degree with Upper Second Class Honours or better, as well as an IELTS score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0.
