Times Higher Education (THE) - University Ranking has placed Edith Cowan University (ECU) in the top 500 of all universities worldwide for the last two years. Its previous rating of 501 and 600 for three years in a row, from 2017 to 2019, has been improved. Teaching, research, and citations are each given 30% weight in The Times Higher Education (THE).

According to US News & World Report's Global Universities, the university is ranked 591 in the US for 2021. Additionally, this is an improvement over its previous placements. In addition to other rating factors, the US News & World Report bases their rankings on the number of publications cited, global research reputation, and regional research reputation (12.5% each).
 

For two years in a row, in 2020 and 2021, QS World University Ranking, one of the top ranking services, placed the university between 651 and 700. Its previous position between 751 and 800 in 2018 and 2019 has improved. The university's 2020 ranking from ARWU (Shanghai Ranking) - Universities Rankings ranges from 601 to 700. The Shanghai ranking does not take into account an institution's reputation among academics or employers, preferring instead to rank universities by considering the level of academic research they produce and the number of Nobel Prizes their staff has won. Whereas QS places the maximum emphasis on Academic Reputation (40%) followed by Citations per Faculty at 20% and Faculty/Student Ratio each.

When it comes to taking business courses, Edith Cowan University (ECU) has received a Times Higher Education ranking for its PG Business and Economics programme that ranges from 301 to 400. Previously, in 2019 and 2020, it was ranked between 401 and 500. Times Higher Education has listed the university between 151 and 175 for the two years, 2020 and 2021, for those pursuing PG Engineering and Technology (THE).
