BS in Chemistry Education, Ball State University

While the program broadly covers chemistry education for high school teaching, students can expect to focus on teaching methods specific to chemistry and physics. The curriculum includes a blend of content courses such as General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry, alongside pedagogy courses like Introduction to the Teaching of Science and Using Science Methods and Materials. This combination ensures a strong foundation in both chemistry content and effective teaching strategies.

This program requires 120 total credits, including 36 credits from the University Core Curriculum and approximately 49 to 53 credits in major-specific courses. Students will take courses in general, organic, and physical chemistry, along with teaching pedagogy, physics, and calculus to fulfill the graduation and licensure prerequisites.

Graduates of this program are prepared to teach chemistry and physics at the high-school level in Indiana. The certification standards are met through the curriculum, enabling students to pursue careers as secondary school teachers in these subjects.
