class="ez-toc-section" id="What_Is_the_University_of_Warsaw_Acceptance_Rate_in_2027-28">What Is the University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate in 2027-28?

The University of Warsaw acceptance rate is usually quoted as 20-30%. That figure is an estimate from ranking aggregators, not a number UW publishes. Using UW’s own 2026 admission results, roughly 28% of registrations ended in qualification. For an Indian applicant, though, the percentage matters less than two other questions: which program you choose, and whether your documents meet Poland’s 2025 rules for foreign candidates.

Why UW has no single official acceptance rate

UW does not admit students to the university as a whole. It admits them program by program. A candidate is admitted when they reach the qualifying threshold set for a program and fall within its seat limit. The competition is therefore local to each program.

The aggregators behind the 20-30% figure acknowledge this. uniRank notes that admission policy and acceptance rate vary by field, degree level and nationality, and refers readers to UW’s admission office. EduRank says its 25% figure is its own calculation from admissions, applications and other circumstantial enrollment data.

How the 28% figure is calculated

UW publishes a results summary every July. Here is the official picture for the last three cycles.

Admission cycle

Candidates (people)

Registrations

Seats offered / qualified

2024-25

30,261

56,009

24,687 seats offered

2025-26

32,000+

61,000+

21,562 seats offered

2026-27 (preliminary)

38,800

76,900

about 21,600 qualified

For 2024-25, 30,261 people registered in UW’s online system and made 56,009 registrations, against 19,899 full-time and 4,788 part-time seats. For 2025-26, more than 32,000 candidates made over 61,000 registrations for a total of 21,562 places. In 2026, 38,800 candidates made and paid for 76,900 registrations, and about 17,300 people qualified for bachelor’s and long-cycle programs, plus 4,300 for master’s programs.

Dividing about 21,600 qualified candidates by 76,900 registrations gives roughly 28% per application. Measured per person (21,600 of 38,800), about 56% qualified for at least one program. Both numbers are LeapScholar calculations. UW describes the 2026 figures as preliminary and partial.

Counselor insight: Students often read “28%” as their personal chance. It isn’t. One student registering for four programs counts four times, which is why the per-person figure is much higher than the per-application one.

University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate by Program

The overall University of Warsaw acceptance rate hides huge differences between programs. UW publishes candidates-per-seat ratios, which convert directly into implied admission odds.

Program (full-time)

2025-26 applicants per seat

2026-27 applicants per seat

Implied 2026-27 rate

Medicine (long-cycle, Polish)

23.95

32.78 (1,967 for 60 seats)

about 3.1%

Business and Management (bachelor’s)

22.18

26.23 (1,049 for 40 seats)

about 3.8%

Japanese Studies (bachelor’s)

20.44

19.12 (478 for 25 seats)

about 5.2%

UW’s 2026 results list medicine at 32.78 applicants per seat, Business and Management at 26.23 and Japanese studies at 19.12. The previous cycle’s figures were 23.95, 22.18 and 20.44 respectively.

Popularity by volume is a different measure. Economics-related programs drew 3,494 registrations, management 3,142 and psychology 2,943. Score cut-offs tell a similar story. In the 2025 first round, computer science had the highest threshold at 90.36 points, followed by Japanese studies at 88.55.

A caveat applies to all of this. UW’s bachelor’s admissions are based on Polish matura exam results, with extra entrance exams for a few programs. These ratios mainly describe the Polish applicant pool. If you are weighing UW against other options, compare it with the top universities in Poland.

Counselor insight: If your only application is Business and Management, you are betting everything on a line under 4%. Register a second program in a related field. It adds only one extra application fee.

Does the University of Warsaw Acceptance Rate Apply to Indian Students?

Only partly. The headline numbers come mostly from Polish candidates competing on matura scores. Indian applicants to English-taught programs are assessed on program-specific criteria and, since 2025, on extra legal requirements. UW also notes that admissions for English-taught programs can run on different dates, set out per program in the Rector’s ordinance. In our research, we found no separate University of Warsaw acceptance rate published for Indian or non-EU applicants.

Indian NEET students often confuse two institutions. The University of Warsaw (UW) and the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) are separate universities. The English-taught, paid medicine program, with 150 seats in its English Division, belongs to WUM. UW’s medicine figures above come from its Polish-language admissions.

Counselor insight: Before you write a single line of your SOP, confirm which university actually runs the program on its own admissions portal. We regularly see students who have prepared UW documents for a WUM program.

University of Warsaw Admission Requirements for Indian Students in 2027-28

India is not an EU, EFTA or OECD country, so Indian documents trigger Poland’s April 2025 rules. Under that Act, a foreigner applying for bachelor’s or long-cycle studies with a school certificate from such a country must provide three things: written information from the director of NAWA about the certificate, proof of B2 knowledge of the teaching language, and a positive entrance exam result. Master’s applicants with a degree from such a country need NAWA’s written statement on the diploma and B2 language proof.

NAWA is Poland’s national agency for academic exchange, and you apply to it online. NAWA issues these statements after a complete application in its SYRENA system, as a digitally signed PDF in Polish, free of charge.

For English proficiency, candidates covered by the Act must submit a document from the ministry’s list, which includes TOEFL iBT with at least 72 points. Under the same 2025 regulation, IELTS requires at least 5.5 points. Duolingo is not on the list; see Duolingo accepted universities in Poland. Individual programs may set higher scores, so check each program’s page on IRK, UW’s online application portal. These rules come from the 2026-27 cycle; UW had not published its 2027-28 admission rules at the time of writing.

Document

What UW asks for

India-specific details

Class 12 certificate and marksheet

School-leaving certificate giving access to higher education

CBSE, CISCE or State Board. The common one is timing. Indian board results arrive in May and UW’s main round closes in July, so the NAWA application has to go in the week your results are out.

University of Warsaw Fees and Application Costs in INR

Applying is cheap. UW’s application fee is 85 PLN per program, or 100 PLN where a written exam, oral exam or interview is required. That works out to Rs.2,136 (85 PLN) or Rs.2,513 (100 PLN) per program. Refunds are possible in set cases, for example if a program does not open because too few candidates applied. Students without a Polish ID number also pay 22 PLN for a student card after qualifying, which is Rs.553 (22 PLN).

Tuition is the bigger cost. UW’s 2026-27 fee list sets non-EU fees per program. The table below shows selected programs.
