The exemption lasts until your work permit expires or the policy itself ends, whichever happens first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IRCC has specifically named tradespeople, nurses, and laboratory technicians as workers likely to use this route, aiming to clear licensing and credential-upgrading barriers in healthcare, home building, and major infrastructure projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workers in Quebec get a parallel exemption from needing a Quebec Acceptance Certificate for the same six-month window, effective the same date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full-time programs longer than six months still need a regular study permit; this exemption doesn&#8217;t replace that requirement, only removes it for shorter courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_It_Matters_for_Indian_Students\"><\/span><strong>Why It Matters for Indian Students<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>India supplies one of the largest cohorts of temporary foreign workers and Post-Graduation Work Permit holders in Canada, many of whom need short bridging or licensing courses (NCLEX prep for nurses, trade certification top-ups, and lab technician credentialing) to move into better-paying, regulated jobs. Before this Canada study permit exemption, even a short course meant a separate study permit application, complete with its own fee, processing wait, and refusal risk. Now, a PGWP holder with 10 months of validity left, for example, can enrol directly in a 4-month bridging program the moment a seat opens up, with no extra application in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>One caveat is worth flagging clearly:<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/work-canada\/special-instructions\/workers-study-without-study-permit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>IRCC&#8217;s eligibility page<\/em><\/a><em> notes that if you study full-time under this exemption, that period&#8217;s work experience won&#8217;t count toward Canadian Experience Class eligibility or Express Entry CRS points. Anyone actively building a PR case should weigh that trade-off before enrolling full-time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_Do_Now\"><\/span><strong>What to Do Now<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s no separate application to file. IRCC has already started emailing eligible work permit holders directly to confirm they qualify.
