The one exception is Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, which charges non-EU students around Rs.1,66,305 (\u20ac1,500) per semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Exchange rate used: <\/em><\/strong><em>Rs.110.87 per EUR, as of September 2026.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduates from a German university can also apply for an 18-month residence permit to search for a job, under<a href=\"https:\/\/www.make-it-in-germany.com\/en\/study-training\/study\/prospects\/seeking-employment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Section 20 of Germany&#8217;s Residence Act, explained on the federal government&#8217;s Make it in Germany portal<\/a>. During this period, graduates can take up any type of employment while they search for a role in their field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Is_the_US_Losing_Ground\"><\/span><strong>Why Is the US Losing Ground?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The US remains attractive for its universities and salary potential, but its post-study route has grown less certain, and 2025 visa issuance data reflects that. Beyond the H-1B lottery figures above, the<a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/legal\/visa-law0\/visa-statistics\/nonimmigrant-visa-statistics\/monthly-nonimmigrant-visa-issuances.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> State Department&#8217;s own published monthly issuance reports<\/a> show F-1 issuances to Indian nationals falling sharply through the 2025 admissions cycle compared with the same months in 2024. Graduates already in the US can still use OPT, including the STEM extension, or pursue routes like the L-1 or O-1, but both the entry visa and the post-study lottery have tightened in the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Traditional destinations are tightening elsewhere too<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>UK:<\/strong> The Graduate visa is being cut from 2 years to 18 months for bachelor&#8217;s and master&#8217;s graduates who apply on or after 1 January 2027. Applicants who apply by 31 December 2026 still get the full 2 years, confirmed directly on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/student-visa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> gov.uk&#8217;s Student visa page<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Canada:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/corporate\/transparency\/committees\/cimm-feb-28-2024\/international-student-cap-allocations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> IRCC&#8217;s own cap allocation notice<\/a> confirms a 35% reduction target for new study permits in 2024, with a national study permit approval rate of approximately 60% across all source countries.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/news\/notices\/2025-provincial-territorial-allocations-under-international-student-cap.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> IRCC&#8217;s 2025 allocation notice<\/a> confirms a further 10% cut for 2025, capping issuance at 437,000 permits nationally.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Australia:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studyaustralia.gov.au\/en\/plan-your-move\/your-guide-to-visas\/student-visa-subclass-500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> official Study Australia government portal<\/a> confirms the Subclass 500 student visa fee now stands at AU$2,500 (Rs.1,71,575) as of 1 July 2026, up from AU$710 before July 2024. The same portal confirms the financial capacity requirement of AU$29,710 a year (Rs.20,38,997).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><em>Exchange rate used: <\/em><\/strong><em>Rs.68.63 per AUD, as of September 2026.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_It_Matters_for_Indian_Students\"><\/span><strong>Why It Matters for Indian Students<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The official data across five countries points the same way. Germany&#8217;s enrolment numbers are climbing while its costs stay low, the UK&#8217;s post-study visa is shrinking, Canada&#8217;s national approval rate sits near 60%, Australia&#8217;s visa fee alone has more than tripled since 2024, and the US combines a tightening H-1B lottery with a documented drop in F-1 issuances in the same year. For a master&#8217;s applicant comparing total cost and post-study certainty, Germany&#8217;s near-zero tuition plus 18-month job-search window is now a materially stronger position than it was even two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Industry Data Adds (With a Clear Caveat)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upgrad.com\/study-abroad\/ebooks\/transnational-education-report-64\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upGrad&#8217;s Transnational Education Report 2026<\/a>, a private industry survey of its own learner base and not an official or independently verifiable dataset, reports that 49% of its respondents cited better job opportunities as their main reason for studying abroad, ahead of quality of education (24%), permanent residency (15%), and lifestyle (11%). It also reports that Germany accounted for 51% of its own platform&#8217;s enrolments between January 2025 and June 2026, against 21% for the US.
