To qualify for the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.added.gov.ae\/en\/live\/long-term-residency\/abu-dhabi-golden-visa\/for-specialists\/for-skilled-professionals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Golden Visa as a skilled professional<\/a>, you need a minimum monthly salary of <strong>AED 30,000 (Rs.7,74,900)<\/strong>. An Indian doctor holding an MD, MS or DNB, which is the overwhelming majority of Indian specialists, cannot be licensed as a Consultant in the UAE through the main specialty route. Not with more years. Not with a better hospital. The regulation closes the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is<a href=\"https:\/\/services.dha.gov.ae\/sheryan\/wps\/contenthandler\/war\/SheryanHomeThemeStatic\/themes\/Portal8.5\/docs\/PQR_April_2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> one narrow legacy exception<\/a>, for doctors enrolled in a recognized Tier 3 program before June 2017. It requires a fellowship of at least one year, ten years of UAE-licensed specialist experience, two years in a supervisory position, two indexed research publications with you as principal investigator, a surgical logbook for surgical specialties, and passing the consultant assessment within three attempts. It exists, but it is not a plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The realistic Indian route to a consultant is MBBS, then MD or MS (Tier 3), then a DM, DrNB or MCh (Tier 2), then five years after that qualification. That is roughly fifteen years from your MBBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Counselor insight:<\/em><\/strong> <em>If you are choosing between an MD and a DrNB in India and the Gulf is anywhere in your ten-year plan, this table should change your choice. The regulation names the specialties accepted toward a GP title: cardiology, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and paediatrics. Two years in a non-clinical or unlisted role will not get you there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The alternative entry point is the resident title, granted to doctors accepted into a health authority&#8217;s approved residency program. Residency pay sits well below GP pay, but it puts you inside the UAE system and on a recognized training track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Practically, this means an MBBS graduate finishing in 2027 is looking at 2030 before a UAE GP licence is realistic. The MBBS-only doctor salary in UAE then sits in a GP band of roughly AED 18,000 to 35,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Counselor insight:<\/em><\/strong> <em>The two-year clock starts when your internship ends, so where you spend those two years is a licensing decision, not just a job. Your gross is close to your net, which is a structural advantage no Indian or UK salary can match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trade-off is equally real and rarely mentioned. Expatriates get no state pension in the UAE. What you get instead is statutory end-of-service gratuity: 21 days of basic salary for each of the first five years, 30 days per year after that, capped at two years&#8217; pay, and nothing at all if you leave before completing one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note the words &#8220;basic salary.&#8221; UAE packages routinely load housing and transport allowances heavily, so a doctor on AED 22,000 gross might have only AED 12,000 as basic. A senior resident post at a central government institution is advertised at 7th CPC Pay Matrix Level 11, basic pay from <strong>Rs.67,700<\/strong> plus non-practising allowance. So a GP-level doctor salary in UAE, taken at the middle of the band and after Dubai living costs, still remits more than an AIIMS senior resident earns in total. That gap is why the Gulf works, and it holds at GP level without any specialist title at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Counselor insight:<\/em><\/strong> <em>Ask for the basic-to-allowance split in writing before you sign.
