class="ez-toc-section-end">

Four funded programs take Indian undergraduates for summer 2027, and one is accepting applications right now. AICTE launched the AICTE-Mitacs Globalink Research Internship on 5 August 2026, with the window closing on 16 September 2026. Up to 300 Indian undergraduates a year for three years from 2027 receive fully funded 12-week placements at Canadian universities.

This is India’s first Globalink cohort. India is absent from the summer 2026 country list, so there are no seniors from last year to ask.

Program

Host country

Eligible for India

Minimum marks

2027 deadline

Funding

English test

AICTE-Mitacs Globalink

Canada

B.E. and B.Tech only, listed institutions

70% CGPA

16 Sept 2026

Airfare, housing, food, insurance, fees

Not required

DAAD WISE

Germany

Science, engineering, maths at partner institutes

Institute-specific, historically high

Around Nov 2026, confirm on daad.in

Monthly stipend, travel subsidy, insurance

Not mandatory, strong English expected

Khorana Program

United States

Biotechnology and allied areas

Institution-specific

2027 call not yet published

Stipend, airfare, insurance

Not specified

S.N. Bose 2027 calls had not been published as of August 2026, so treat their dates as pending rather than missed. Both are run by the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum, and they split by discipline: students with a biology background are directed to Khorana rather than S.N. Bose.

If your field sits outside science and engineering, the wider set of global internship opportunities for Indian students is a better starting point.

Counselor insight: Students treat these four as interchangeable and apply to whichever they find first. Mitacs matches you to a listed project with no prior contact needed. DAAD WISE requires a German professor’s written invitation already in hand. For India in 2027 it is B.E. and B.Tech only. A BSc Physics student following a page that says “all disciplines” will build an application they cannot submit.

General rules that also apply:

At least 18 years old at application

Two years of undergraduate study completed

One to three semesters remaining as of fall 2027

Available for 12 consecutive weeks starting between 1 May and 31 July 2027

Passport valid to at least January 2028

Apply to minimum three projects across at least three Canadian provinces. The award is a component set: a contribution towards round-trip airfare, airport-to-accommodation transport, a housing stipend, a stipend towards enrolment fees, a stipend for food and incidentals, and emergency health insurance. Mitacs states amounts vary depending on country of origin.

DAAD WISE is more transparent: a monthly stipend, a travel subsidy of about Rs.1,05,000 (1,050 euros), and insurance.

For scale, IIT Mandi’s 2026 summer internship paid Rs.10,000 a month. The funded international programs sit an order of magnitude above that, which is why competition is fierce.

One detail families are rarely warned about: Mitacs funds are disbursed only after the internship starts and require physical presence in Canada. Your visa fee, biometrics, airfare booking and first accommodation deposit come from family funds first, reimbursed later. Direct professor outreach for a self-arranged placement remains open regardless of any list.

How do I email a professor for a research internship?

Lead with the specific paper of theirs you read and the technique you want to learn, then your relevant coursework and lab work in two lines, then a direct ask about summer supervision with your available dates.
