It is the grade held by the last student admitted after all applicants were ranked, and it is recalculated every single semester based on who applied.

Leipzig University states that the NC is determined afresh each semester through the selection procedure and indicates the grade average or waiting time at which the final available study place was awarded.

Every Leipzig program falls into one of three categories:

Zulassungsfrei (admission-free). No NC. Meet the formal entry requirements and you are admitted. Roughly half of Leipzig’s 200-plus programs sit here.

Örtlich zulassungsbeschränkt (local restriction). The faculty sets its own NC. Leipzig has no engineering faculty, so target Informatik-adjacent or physics options such as the International Physics Studies Program MSc. The dMAT applies to you from Summer 2027. Book it before you file with APS.

If you are a Class 12 CBSE student who scored 88%: your grade converts to about 1.6, which is competitive. Your obstacle is not the acceptance rate, it is that 96% of German bachelor’s programs require C1 German plus TestAS. Either commit 12 to 18 months to German, or route through a Studienkolleg. The first application costs Rs.8,228 and each additional one in the same cycle costs Rs.3,291. For roughly Rs.18,000 total you can file one reach programme at NC 1.5, one mid-tier at 2.3, and two admission-free programs. Students who apply to a single restricted program and miss by 0.1 lose an entire year for the price of a fourth application.

3 Takeaways on Your Leipzig University Acceptance Rate

Open your target program’s page on uni-leipzig.de and read the Zulassungsbeschränkung field. That single field, not any acceptance rate, tells you whether you are competing on grades at all.

Start APS the same week you start shortlisting, and check whether the dMAT applies to your bachelor’s field if you are targeting Summer 2027 or later.

Build your uni-assist cycle around at least one admission-free program, so a single NC cut-off cannot cost you the intake.

Verified by: LeapScholar’s Germany counseling team, with hands-on experience guiding Indian students through APS certification, uni-assist submissions and German student visa applications.

Have questions about applying to Leipzig University from India? Book a free session with a LeapScholar counselor.

Frequently Asked Questions About Leipzig University Acceptance Rate

What happens if my APS certificate is delayed past the Leipzig deadline?

Contact APS India with your reference number and request a status update in writing.
