It can be hard for international students to get a job independently at less structured universities because companies do right-to-work checks that can trip up learners who don\u2019t know the rules of their visa. You have to get a mark for it as part of your degree. You can&#8217;t just leave school and start working. The placement is part of your study, and your university has to report this to UKVI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Condition 2:<\/strong> The placement cannot be more than half of the total course time for a degree or more (or one-third at some schools; check with yours). This number fits right with the placement year for a normal 4-year sandwich study.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Condition 3:<\/strong> Your school must notify UKVI. \u201cYou don\u2019t do this alone.\u201d Your university\u2019s international student team will provide placement information. If you change jobs during the training, you must inform your university immediately so they can update UKVI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provided these three things are true, you can work over 20 hours per week while on placement on your student visa. You can even do full-time work even during school hours if you want.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Visa Extension:<\/strong> If your current student visa expires before the end of your placement year, you must apply for an extension from within the UK. You can apply up to 3 months before your visa expires. Do not let your visa expire; apply as soon as you have your placement start date confirmed and have checked your visa expiry date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Counselor insight:<\/em><\/strong><em> Indian students often receive visas for the duration of the 3-year course and are not prepared to have to extend it for the work year. When you sign up for a sandwich course, make sure that the visa application states that the sandwich course will be for 4 years from the start. If you choose to take a sandwich long after you arrive, your International Student Services team must inform UKVI.
