There are no family allowances, and cantonal migration authorities handle dependent residence permits separately under a currently restrictive policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Conference and fieldwork costs:<\/strong> PhD scholars can do up to six months of fieldwork, but all associated costs are the scholar&#8217;s responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why the stipend is now flat across tracks:<\/strong> Until the 2026-27 cycle, postdoctoral researchers received a separate, higher monthly stipend of CHF 3,500, well above the CHF 1,920 paid to PhD, Research Fellowship, and Art scholarship holders. Per an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbfi.admin.ch\/en\/newnsb\/rHf5BGSRRfGZj0hEuSxGw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> official SBFI announcement dated 19 November 2025<\/a>, the Federal Council raised the base stipend to CHF 2,450 starting January 2026 but discontinued the postdoctoral scholarship track entirely from the 2027-28 academic year onward, which is the cycle this guide covers.
