When you get accepted by a university in Canada, they notify the province, which processes the PAL and sends it back to the school for your confirmation.

How long is PAL valid for? If it doesn't have an expiry date written on it, it’s valid until January 21, 2025. You can reuse the same PAL for a study permit application if it’s still valid.

No PAL needed for:

Canadian citizens

Permanent residents

Permit extensions

Short-term programs (less than six months)

Current permit holders or their relatives

Those applying to master's programs
