 LeapSpeak

From July 1st onwards, International students enrolled in Australian universities will require ministerial approval in order to change their course of study midway.

This condition will affect international students on subclass 500 visas. Chinese & Indian students will be the most impacted.

The new rule applies to international students pursuing graduate certifications, graduate diploma, master’s or doctorate level degrees.

This approval can only be granted after the Minister is satisfied that the knowledge transfer is not likely to be directly or indirectly a risk to Australian national security.

Students intending to change their course, thesis, or research topic will need to complete a form available on the website of the department of home Affairs and submit it.

This will add more admin work for international students who have been critical of this ruling.
