Although course grades are essential, admission test scores like the ACT & SAT are also prioritised. Students with high grades but low test scores tend to get rejected. 

2. Insufficient Academic Rigour

Colleges want applicants who push themselves academically. Schools will consider your GPA, but they will also review your transcript.  It’s always best to have a good mix of AP (Advanced Placement) and honours classes.

3. Application Essay Error

Students mostly make errors on application materials, especially essays. They either hurry through it or neglect to proofread, which leads to numerous spelling mistakes, unintended  auto-corrections, etc. This can be mistaken for carelessness.

4. Academic Integrity Concern

The admissions team wants to ensure that the transcript accurately reflects the capabilities of the student who submits it.  Any record of cheating or plagiarism can lead to instant rejection.

5. Poor Fit

Colleges look for students who share their interests, just as students look for institutions that share theirs.  E.g. For private universities, the mission and value statements should coincide with the candidate's profile.
